England

I haven't even touched upon our England trip yet. Don't worry, I will!

Keeping Warm

We have had some amazingly cold days here at Greyweathers recently. Our woodstove has been a lovely source of heat. As you can see - Sneak and Tennyson take full advantage of the warming blaze!

Back in November Larry and I were on our way to a Books Arts meeting when I spied the amazing stillness of the Jock river. "What a photograph", I thought and immediately brought the MINI to a screeching halt, whipped out my camera and jumped out of the car. I was still in photography mode after spending an entire three weeks in England shooting pretty well everything I saw.
And then I noticed the moon(s).

More Pocketbooks

I created a slew of pocketbooks back in November for the OCAD Book Arts Fair and here they are. I am going to open an Etsy Store and these will be featured in it.

What's Next?

An interesting couple dropped into the Studio this afternoon to look at my art and talk about creative things. I was asked the question, "So what's next?". Josh was referring to my art. I babbled something about doing more on the Garden theme but in a different way from the first series, and that I would also be starting a series of "dark" pieces. "Dark in colour or in theme?" In theme. Hmmm... This has been on and in my mind lately. One afternoon I drove to our lock-up and brought back to the Studio every canvas, board and painting support I have left. One was a piece of masonite with acrylic medium plastered on it to give texture and a pencil sketch of a face. It was an attempt at a self-portrait excercise that Cimmaron, Vanda and I had begun years ago. I had a very strong urge to paint something dark, so I seized the unfinished piece and began to work over it and change it. I am happy with the result so far and will be continuing to build on it, adding and subtracting as I go. I have no idea how it will finish up but I am enjoying that aspect. This is a sneak peak... Separate Layers

Inspired by Michael deMeng's exploded 3d polaroids, I created a multi-dimensional piece in a recent Thursday morning playgroup. I love to use layers in my work because it creates a sense of mystery. Using separate layers is quite fun and leaves a lot of scope for embellishing! Look for more photos soon of Laura, Jamie, Claudette and Heather's pieces. This may be a wonderful means of expression for some of those photos created on our England trip in October of 2008. With added artwork and altering, of course!
