Under Where?

Here is a shot of what is on the studio table today - paintings in progress, or underpaintings, on wooden panels. Last night and this morning was taken up with applying gesso, drying, sanding and repeating, until three coats were achieved. It feels good to prepare a clean white "slate" to receive the paint. I have even gessoed over one of my old paintings and two workshop exercise pieces. They are destined for greater things, I hope.

The underpaintings, in their very first stage...
On the left, you can see my favourite palette of Golden fluid acrylics: Paynes Gray, Vandyke Brown, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Titan Buff... oh, and of course, Acrylic Glazing Liquid. I love these scrumptious, earthy colours which I now possess in 16 oz sizes. On the right you will see my new angled taklon synthetic brush in one of three large sizes... Thank you, Dick Blick! I love getting art supplies in the post :)

  1. Well, I think these 'underpaintings' are good enough to stand on their own! Things can only get better .... if the bases are that good.

    Bonne chance

  5. I have all of those things sitting in my studio too! There were sitting on my kitchen counter last night, but there was no room for cooking, and well, a girl's got to eat too!

  6. Your pallete is my first choice as well and I use them in liters (great that Aussie $$$ is so good comparing to USD). I can't wait for those paintings to be finished, they look great even in progress.
Thanks for the comment on my last post.
