Workshopping Ideas
I've been scribbling down ideas for art & artist-related workshops to teach at my studio in Merrickville. So far I have nearly covered my large work table with sheets of possible topics - Composition & Design, Writing (bios, statements), Tools & Techniques, Collage, Getting Text Into Your Art, Breaking Through Artists' Block, Creative Process, Book Boxes, Calligraphy, Creative Play, Layers, Altered Books, Oil Pastel & Acrylic, Using One Palette, Texture and Aging...
I suddenly thought, "Who better to get input from than the people who want to take art workshops from me?" I already have requests for Muse Journals, Mixed Media Painting and A Storybook in Mixed Media. And a suggestion for a "How do I fix this/troubleshooting with paint" workshop.
How about you? What workshops would you like to see me offer at my Merrickville studio? Tell me by leaving a comment on this blog post :)

If I was there, I'd look into the Getting Text into Your Art and Layers....
ReplyDeleteLove the pic....even your notes are "artistic"...very impressive!!! (o:
Thanks, Dave! :)
ReplyDeleteThe mixed media workshops would be interesting, as well as the Texture and Aging. If the dates of the workshops work out with my schedule, I would be interested.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input, Shirley. I will be posting my workshop schedule once it is confirmed :)
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the things you and I have already talked about I would be interested in a collage workshop focused on use of images (things like size/scale, number of images and placement/white space, combining multiple images in one piece, focal point images versus background images, sources for images, etc. etc. etc. My interest is more on developing techniques that I can than apply to my future work rather than in making a specific project. Like Gayle, my interest is more on learning techniques.
@Gayle: Thanks for the detailed info!

ReplyDeletenot sure if you got my comment yesterday so will do it again. all of the workshops sound great and i would be interested in most of them. i have had life changes this year and now have artists block, so a workshop addressing this area would be a good place to start. have you already posted the schedule, if so where as i can.t see it. ReplyDeleteThanks for the input, Julie! I have chosen five workshops from the feedback I got through this post, email, Facebook & Twitter. I thought they would be posted yesterday, but it's taking longer than I thought to update my website. Stay tuned!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with hiding edges, tips and techniques for this would be great though I live far far away and could never attend your workshop.
ReplyDeleteceparie: Have you ever thought about taking an online workshop? I highly recommend any over at The Land of Lost Luggage - http://www.julieprichard.com/mixed-media-workshops
